Welcome back to school!
Let’s welcome this new year with enthusiasm to build a stronger reading habit. Not sure if a book is a good fit for your children? There is an easy way for them to choose the right book on their own, by doing the “Five Finger Rule!”
Here’s how to do it:
- Choose a book and open the first page.
- Tell your child to hold up one finger for every word they don’t know.
- By the end of the page, see the number of fingers they’ve holding up. Is the book suitable for your children?
- 0-1 fingers: It’s too easy
- 2-3 fingers: It’s just right
- 4-5 fingers: A bit too challenging. Try another book or ask an adult to read it aloud!

Mari kita sambut tahun baru ini dengan semangat untuk membangun kebiasaan membaca. Apakah Anda pernah kebingungan untuk memilih buku yang cocok untuk anak Anda? Ada cara mudah yang bisa diajarkan kepada mereka untuk memilih buku yang tepat. Teknik pemilihan buku ini disebut dengan “Five Finger Rule!”
Berikut cara melakukannya:
- Pilih sebuah buku dan buka halaman pertama
- Minta anak Anda untuk mengangkat satu jari ketika menemukan setiap kata yang tidak mereka ketahui.
- Di akhir halaman, lihat jumlah jari yang mereka angkat. Apakah tingkat kesulitan buku tersebut cocok?
- 0-1 jari: terlalu mudah
- 2-3 jari: tepat
- 4-5 jari: terlalu sulit. Cobalah buku lain atau bacakan secara nyaring buku tersebut.
