Message from the Head

Integrity, Coram Deo (Before the Face of God)

The integrity of the upright guides them;

but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.

Welcome to the 2025-2026 Academic Year! Teachers and staff are excited to greet your children on campus this week as we embark on a year of discovery, joyful learning, and soul-formation founded upon our classical, Christian tradition. This year, our school theme will highlight the CBCS core value of Integrity, defined as “living one’s life wholly centered towards Christ in the consciousness of God’s presence” (The Standard, p. 17). I invite all of you to join us at Convocation Chapel on August 8 to worship together, learn more about integrity from God’s word, and pray as a community for this new school year.

As you may have noticed, we are in the midst of a major construction project to complete the Grammar School wing which will house all Grammar School students, Grades 1-6, by adding 6 new classrooms and a more spacious office for GS teachers and administrators. The construction crew have been working at lightning speed since the end of last year to get the dustiest and loudest part of this building process accomplished before we began this academic year. As you return to campus, you will notice a few detours, some fenced off areas, new doorways and paths to access the Grammar School wing and the School Library, so be sure to follow all signage. Since construction is dusty work, please have your child wear a mask if sensitive to the air quality or suffers from frequent allergies. Please excuse our mess and be mindful when on campus to keep your children safe from harm by avoiding all blocked areas or playing with any dangerous materials (nails, bolts, screws, etc) that may find their way into the main campus areas. Construction updates will be shared in the monthly newsletter or via email when urgent.

Again, welcome to all new families and welcome back to our returning families; we are grateful to be partnering with you in your child’s education at CBCS.

Walking by Faith,

Denise Strickland, M. Ed.

Grammar School

IMG 1867The first years of schooling are called the “grammar stage.” CBCS Grammar School is comprised of students from Grade 1 to Grade 6. The grammar stage are the years in which the building blocks for all other learning are laid. In the elementary school years the mind is ready to absorb information. Children at this age actually find memorization fun. During this period, students will begin to learn of facts. Students will learn such things as the rules of phonics and spelling, rules of grammar for English writing and speaking, poems, the vocabulary of foreign languages, the stories of history and literature, descriptions of plants and animals and the human body, and the facts of mathematics.

School of Logic

IMG 1616solBy fifth or sixth grade, a child’s mind begins to think more analytically. The “logic stage” is a time when students begin to notice cause and effect, how different fields of knowledge relate, and the way facts fit together into a logical framework. These students begin to develop their natural capacity for abstract thought while continuing to nourish their curiosity.

Our academic goals for the School of Logic students include learning how to become self-learners, learning how to manage their schedules and demands, and learning how to think critically and logically.

This is where the students are trained to become future leaders equipped with Christian worldview and technical skills to go out into the world and become culture changers. Building on the first two stages of the Classical Trivium, students in the “rhetoric stage,” will learn to write and speak with confidence and originality. They learn to apply the rules of logic to the basic information learned in the early grades.
